Young boys might face charges after shooting cat in Secunda

The boys allegedly shot their neighbour's pet with a pellet gun.

Two primary school boys might face charges of animal cruelty after they allegedly shot a neighbour’s cat with a pellet gun. The cat was taken to Dr Darko Zupanc where he removed three bullets and the cat is recovering well.

According to chief animal welfare inspector of the South African Animal Welfare Inspectorate Association (Saawia), Marius van Reeuwyk, he is obligated to open a case.

“People must realise that it is against the law to set off a fire arm in a residential area and to shoot a cat,” said Van Reeuwyk.

The father of the children can also be charged for neglect because of what his boys did.

“People must start to obey the law when it comes to animals,” said Van Reeuwyk.

Saawia is a non-profit, animal welfare organisation and dependent on donations to continue doing the work they do. If you want to donate, contact Van Reeuwyk at 067 858 9719.
