Turn your workplace green on Friday for mental health
World Mental Health Day is on October 10.
This World Mental Health Day (October 10), the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) is calling on corporates and workplaces nationwide to join the Go Green for Mental Health campaign.
This is a visible show of support for mental health awareness in South Africa. SADAG notes that one in four employees is diagnosed with depression, and one in three South Africans is likely to experience a mental illness in their lifetime.
Workplaces, therefore, play a vital role in recognising and supporting employees who may be struggling. Yet despite the growing need, only one in ten people living with a mental illness has access to mental healthcare.
“When stress, depression, or anxiety go untreated, it doesn’t just affect the individual – it affects the entire workplace, leading to mistakes, absenteeism, burnout, and high staff turnover.
“When workplaces prioritise mental health, everyone benefits as employees thrive and organisations grow stronger,” said Dr Colinda Linde, clinical psychologist and SADAG board member.
“High levels of stress, burnout, and untreated mental illness directly impact both employee well-being and business performance. By participating in our campaign, companies are not only raising awareness but also helping to break down stigma and encouraging employees to seek support early.”
Throughout October, SADAG will be going green to shine a spotlight on mental health. From workplaces to community spaces, the organisation will raise awareness, spark conversations, and encourage everyone to show their support by joining the movement.
