Athletes ‘take heart’ in Secunda Mall race
Sasol Athletics Club's Tsiyamo Lephoto wins 21km with a time of 1:08:33.
Tsiyamo Lephoto of Sasol Athletics Club won the recent 21km Secunda Mall’s Take Heart race on October 18. He completed the race in 1:08:33, while Gift Mokoena of Pan African Athletics Club finished second in 1:09:41, and Kabelo Sefadi of Waterfall Athletics Club finished third in 1:11:24.
Thembinkosi Mavuso was the first junior man to cross the finish line with 1:11:28, and Nkosinathi Thela of Leandra Athletics Club finished second in 1:24:53.
In the men’s 40-and-older category, Gift Mokoena was the fastest with a time of 1:09:41, while Graham Malinga of Eskom finished second in 1:13:20.
Joseph Lubisi was the fastest athlete in the men’s 50-and-older category and finished in 1:21:40, while Khaya Sithole of Thungela Athletics Club finished second in 1:30:11.
Linda Maphanga of Mkobola Athletics Club and Abram Mahlangu of Eskom respectively won the men’s 60-and-older and 70-and-older categories.

Leon Schoenfeldt of Nedbank Athletics Club was the fastest walker among the men. Chrizelle Robberts of Nedbank Athletics Club was the first woman in the 21km race to cross the finish line in 1:30:00.
Thuli Mbatha of Benoni Northerns finished second in 1:37:01 and also won the women’s 50-and-older category. Elzette Pretorius finished third in the open category in 1:37:24.
Siphesihle Simelane of Nkangala was the first junior woman and won with 2:06:14, while Michaela Lumley of Sasol Marathon Club finished second in 2:06:58.
Ilse Smith of Nedbank Athletics Club was woman in the 40-and-older category in 1:57:14, while Nanette Behr of Lake Umuzi Secunda Marathon Club finished second in 2:03:29.
Meintji Jansen of Lake Umuzi Secunda Marathon Club finished second in the 50-and-older category in 1:46:01. Audrey Turpin from Middelburg Marathon Club and Beauty Kubheka of Sasol Marathon Club respectively won the 60-and-over and 70-and-over categories.

The overall winner in the men’s 10km race was Siyabonga Xowana of Sasol Athletics Club, who finished in 31:32. Lucas Jani of Maxed Elite and Emmanuel Motaung of Sasol Athletics Club finished second and third respectively, with times of 32:08 and 32:44.
Motaung was also the winner among the junior athletes, while Given Mohamotse of Sasol Athletics Club finished second in 33:42 and Litha Sonjica of Evander Athletics Club finished third in 34:04.
Elisa Kobe of Benoni Northerns Athletics Club won in the 40-and-over category with 35:35, while Pienaar Jansen van Rensburg of Goedehoop Athletics finished second.
Johanns Sibande of Thungela won the 50-and-over category in 39:10, while Simphiwe Sixelankomo of Komoni Athletics Club finished second in 39:35.
Collen Williams of Sasol Marathon Club won the 70-and-over category in 46:51.

Helena Joubert of Nedbank was the first woman to cross the finish line in 38:43 and also won the category for women aged 40 and over.
Frederika Rossouw of Nedbank finished second in 42:22, and she also finished second in the women’s 40-and-over category.
Michelle Parkes of Lake Umuzi Secunda Marathon Club finished third in 58 minutes.
Zandisile Mtsweni of Nkangala won the junior women’s category in 49:20, while Refilwe Mashiloane of Nkangala finished second in 50:20, and Zandile Masuku of Sasol Athletics Club finished third in 54 minutes.
Zelda Keyser of Ermelo Marathon Club won in the women 50 and over in 53:35, while Alet Pretorius of Middelburg Marathon Club finished second in 1:03:53.
Adri Marx of Bethal Marathon Club won the category for 60 and over, while Busisiwe Magqabi of Sasol Marathon Club was the first walker to cross the finish line.
