N17 truck stop opens in Kinross

MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, Thulasizwe Thomo, represented Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu, joining Sasol’s executive leadership led by Christian Herrmann, executive vice-president, and Dumisani Bengu, senior vice-president.

The Sasol N17 Truckstop in Kinross was launched in a ceremony attended by government dignitaries and Sasol executives on November 8.

MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, Thulasizwe Thomo, represented Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu, joining Sasol’s executive leadership led by Christian Herrmann, executive vice-president, and Dumisani Bengu, senior vice-president.

Also in attendance were Walter Mngomezulu, the mayor of Gert Sibande District Municipality, and Nhlakanipho Zuma, the mayor of the Govan Mbeki Municipality.

Described as a “Home Away from Home,” the truck stop represents more than a refuelling station; it stands as a strategic investment in the logistics future of Mpumalanga.

The modern facility boasts a range of amenities designed to improve the well-being and efficiency of long-distance truck drivers and freight operators. These include an on-site wellness clinic, high-tech security systems, a laundromat, entertainment areas, shower facilities and secure overnight parking.

In his address, Thomo emphasised the importance of such developments in advancing the province’s infrastructure and transport agenda.

“As a department, we view such investments as critical to our broader strategic goals of enhancing safety, efficiency and reliability across our transport network, while promoting economic growth and logistics development along key corridors such as the N17,” said Thomo.

He further noted that the new truck stop will play a vital role in supporting transport and logistics operators, ensuring the smooth flow of goods and services along the N17 corridor, an essential economic route linking Mpumalanga, Gauteng and KZN.
