Correctional Services officials appointed to new positions in Bethal and Standerton
Correctional centres welcome newly appointed officials in Bethal, Standerton and Ermelo.
The Bethal Management Area has acknowledged eight officials appointed to new positions as of November 1. Seven of the officials were promoted to senior correctional officer (SCO) ranks, while the eighth was appointed as a Grade I correctional officer educator.
The area commissioner of the Bethal Management Area, Abel Mashaba, along with the area coordinator for Corporate Services, Mzwamakahaya Dlepu, officiated the pinning of insignias for the seven promoted SCOs. These officials were appointed to serve at Bethal, Ermelo, and Standerton correctional centres.
Two of the promoted officials were appointed as unit managers at Bethal Correctional Centre, while two others were appointed as centre coordinator corrections and unit manager at Ermelo Correctional Centre.
The remaining two were assigned as divisional head for human resource management and security nutritional services at Standerton Correctional Centre.
The Grade I educator has been appointed at Standerton Correctional Centre. This latest development comes two months after the Bethal Management Area welcomed 12 newly appointed officials.

Nine of them began their posts in early September, and three started their duties early last month. The group included four educationists, three artisans, three clinical nurses, and two social workers.
On September 12, the Management Area also welcomed 30 newly appointed learners, forming the first group for the 2025/2026 financial year. These learners joined after completing four months of theoretical training at Zonderwater Training College.
All these appointments and promotions reflect Bethal Management Area’s efforts to strengthen stability and fulfil its mission of contributing to a just, peaceful, and safer South Africa through effective and humane incarceration, as well as the rehabilitation and social reintegration of inmates.
Mashaba urged the appointees to make a meaningful contribution to the area’s performance.
“It is significant that your presence adds value in the performance of Bethal Management Area. You are urged to optimally use your skills and knowledge to enhance service delivery.
“This should be reflected in improved targets of the Annual Performance Plan (APP) and in other operational areas of the department,” Mashaba said.
