eMbalenhle police warn stokvel members against keeping large sums of cash at home
The warning follows several incidents in which criminals targeted these groups during the festive season payout periods.
Colonel Khuselwa Matrose, the eMbalenhle Police Station commander, has issued a stern warning to the community, particularly stokvel and savings club members, not to keep large sums of cash at their homes as the time to share their savings approaches.
The warning follows several incidents in which criminals targeted these groups during the festive season payout periods, robbing them of their money.
Last year, numerous cases were reported in which stokvels and savings clubs were attacked while members were busy sharing funds.
In some cases, cash was even stolen from members’ homes before the day of distribution.
Matrose encouraged members of these financial groups to use safer options such as bank deposits or electronic transfers to avoid losing their hard-earned money to criminals.
