Actress from Secunda lands role alongside Hollywood actress and SA stars

Dineo Rasedile (35) has landed a lead role in the action-packed drama series on Prime called The Nowhere Man.

Landing her biggest lead role yet, Dineo Rasedile (35) plays Neo alongside Hollywood actress Naturi Naughton-Lewis (from the drama series Power) as Ruby, and talented South African actors Bonko Khoza (as Lukas), Nathan Castle, Andreas Damm, Moopi Mothibeli, and Hlomla Dandala in the action-packed Prime series The Nowhere Man.

The Nowhere Man Season One, comprising six episodes, premiered in November.

The storyline follows Lukas, a traumatised ex-mercenary haunted by PTSD, who works as a waste picker crafting statues with his metalworking skills. However, he is pulled back into a violent underworld to save a kidnapped teen.

Neo, who testified against her ex-fiancé involved in a drug syndicate, has a target on her back and is taken to a homeless shelter run by Ruby, returning her to humble beginnings.

“This is one of the highlights of my career because I am one of the main characters, and this is my first time on a Prime series,” said Rasedile. She added that working alongside Hollywood actress Naughton-Lewis was a milestone for her career.

Unlike her previous roles in Blood Legacy, Ambitions, Dead Places, Law, Love and Betrayal, and Shuga Down South, Rasedile had the opportunity to feature in stunts, fighting, and action scenes.

“I was within the action, which was really fun,” she said.

The series was filmed over five months, set in Johannesburg and the salt mines of the Western Cape.

“It was interesting to see each actor’s process of getting into their characters. Naughton-Lewis brought open energy, was mindful, and wanted to learn more about our South African culture. She could have been closed off, but she came with a positive feel,” said Rasedile.

She also praised the co-directors, Gareth Crocker and Fred Wolmarans, for creating a collaborative environment.

“The directors gave us space to make bold choices and fill in the gaps. They let us feel the character and gave us opportunities as actors to bring in our own creativity, which I really loved,” Rasedile added.

For Rasedile, character preparation is a different process each time.

“I know what to do theoretically in terms of training, but every character has a different process. With Neo, I used the environments – her room and the salt mine – wardrobe, and script to get into character,” she explained.

She described the shoot as one of the nicest experiences of her career in terms of schedules, on-set energy, and the cast and crew working beautifully together.

“My jaw dropped and tears came to my eyes when I saw The Nowhere Man trailer. Shooting the scenes and seeing the final product is such a surreal feeling,” Rasedile said.

After filming The Nowhere Man, Rasedile immediately took on the role of Mimi in the Netflix drama series Bad Influencer, which premiered in October. The story follows single mother BK, played by Jo-Anne Reyneke, who tries to make ends meet by selling fake luxury bags in Johannesburg.

2025 has been a pivotal year for Rasedile, transitioning from youthful roles to more adult lead roles. One of the most heartwarming experiences for her has been the support from local fans.

“I appreciate the local support; it pushes me to do more. Don’t be shy if you see me – please come and say hi,” she said.
Rasedile also credits her family as her biggest support system.

“Our industry requires a strong support system and people who check in on you and walk the journey with you. It gets tough, but I’m blessed to have people in my corner. I’ve worked with the calibre of actors I have at this stage, standing on the shoulders of giants. It’s shaping me into the kind of actor that young upcoming actors can lean on,” she said.

She shares her knowledge through online workshops. Follow Rasedile on TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram for more details.
