Make a paper wreath with the children

Step-by-step instructions how to make your own Christmas wreath from paper.

Why spend money on a ready-made Christmas wreath when you can make your own? Let your children enjoy this creative activity of constructing their own colourful Christmas wreath from paper.

You will need:
• Disposable plastic or paper plates. I used a plastic plate.
• Dark green, light green, white, red and yellow construction paper
• Red and white mini pom-poms
• Scissors
• A ruler and a pencil
• Strong craft glue
• A piece of string if you wish to hang up the wreath.

Method:
Step 1: Cut out the centre of the plate. I used a box cutter. You will be using only the rim of the plate.

Step 2: Use a ruler to measure out equal strips of dark and light green paper and cut these out.

Step 3: Apply glue to a strip of paper and then fold it over to fit around the rim of the plate.

Step 4: Repeat step 3 with alternating dark and light green strips.

Step 5: Once the entire rim is covered, let it set for a few minutes to dry.

Step 6: Cut a small triangle out of each strip of paper to give it a ribbon effect.

Step 7: Cut and fold a bow from the construction paper. I used a template from Pinterest, but host Bonnie Alexander folded an easier bow from a strip of red paper.

Step 8: Glue the bow to the wreath.

Step 9: Cut out a 3cm strip of white paper and a teardrop shape from the yellow paper to make it look like a candle and flame. Paste these together and then glue or staple them to the wreath.

Step 10: Glue pom-poms randomly around the wreath. Allow the glue to dry before you string the wreath.
