Final curtain falls for Standerton Lions Club House
The club’s sole remaining member and president, Malcolm Johnston, said it is disappointing that the clubhouse had to be closed down due to the ongoing vandalism.
After over 50 years of community service, the Standerton Lions Club House has officially closed its doors. Established in 1974 at River Park in Burger Street, the club faced a steady decline in membership following the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, the final nail in the coffin was the persistent vandalism and infrastructure damage that left the facility unusable. President Malcolm Johnston serves as the club’s sole remaining member.
“It is disappointing that we got to this stage and that vandals have taken over our Local Lekwa Municipality,” said Johnston.
Despite the loss of the physical headquarters, Johnston confirms that the Lions Club’s mission continues through weekly support of the local food kitchen.
“The Lions Club still has a responsibility to assist where we can,” said Johnston.
As part of a global, non-political, and non-religious humanitarian network, the Lions Club remains dedicated to empowering volunteers to improve health, strengthen communities, and support those in need.
