Woman dies in shack fire in Ext 33 in Kinross

Police investigations are ongoing.

A woman tragically lost her life in a shack fire on Saturday, March 28, in Extension 33, Kinross, commonly known as Marikana.

According to Kinross police spokesperson, Constable Cebisile Mlambo, police were called to the scene after reports of a shack fire with a person trapped inside.

“Upon arrival, the shack was almost completely destroyed by the fire. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, the body of a woman was discovered inside,” said Mlambo.
Emergency medical personnel declared the woman dead at the scene.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and police have opened an inquest docket.

According to unverified information from community members, the deceased’s husband, who earns a living by cutting grass in the community, was refueling his machine with petrol at the time of the incident.

It is further alleged that the deceased was cooking using a gas stove when the fire broke out inside the shack.

Police investigations are ongoing. The victim’s name is also not yet known.
