Mayor assesses progress on concrete reservoir in Leandra

The development includes a 5ML reservoir, a 4.2m bulk pipeline, a guard house, an operator’s residence, and high-security fencing to safeguard the facility.

LEANDRA – The Executive Mayor of Govan Mbeki Municipality, Nhlakanipho Zuma, conducted a technical site visit on April 13 to assess progress on the near-complete 5-megalitre concrete reservoir in Leandra.

Zuma described the water infrastructure project as a critical intervention in addressing ongoing water supply challenges in the area.

The development includes a 5ML reservoir, a 4.2m bulk pipeline, a guard house, an operator’s residence, and high-security fencing to safeguard the facility.

He emphasised that the project aims to significantly boost water storage capacity and improve distribution pressure for Leandra and the surrounding communities.

According to Zuma, stabilising the water supply will ensure more reliable access for households while supporting long-term socio-economic development.

Zuma also highlighted that the project aligns with the municipality’s Local Economic Development (LED) objectives.

Residents have been employed during construction, while subcontracting opportunities have been extended to local small and medium enterprises, ensuring that the investment benefits the community directly.

During the inspection, Zuma noted that most critical components have been successfully completed.

“This project is a testament to our resolve to provide quality basic services to our people. While the reservoir is almost functional, we urge residents to continue using water sparingly to maintain stable supply levels as we move towards final handover,” said Zuma.
