NAFCOC represent Sakhile residents with memorandum to Eskom
Among the key demands raised by the community were calls for Eskom to prioritise residents of Lekwa when awarding employment and business opportunities.
The National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NAFCOC) Mpumalanga branch handed over a memorandum from the Sakhile community to Eskom on May 6, following a meeting held at Sakhile Stadium.
The memorandum outlined several grievances and demands from the community, particularly regarding employment opportunities, skills development and social investment initiatives linked to Eskom projects in the area.
Among the key demands raised by the community were calls for Eskom to prioritise residents of Lekwa when awarding employment and business opportunities.
Community members also urged Eskom to invest in long-term skills development programmes instead of only hiring local workers temporarily during shutdown projects and releasing them once the projects are completed without transferring meaningful skills.
The memorandum called for practical social investment programmes aimed at improving the livelihoods of the Lekwa community and ensuring that local residents benefit sustainably from economic activities associated with Eskom operations in the area.
