Cash in transit robbery leaves one suspect dead, two arrested and more on the run in Leandra
The two arrested suspects will appear at the Leandra Court on Wednesday, February 8.
Police are investigating a robbery that happened on the R29 in Leandra at about 09:00 this morning Monday, February 6.
A Fidelity vehicle that was stationed in front of a shop was stormed by four robbers when the guard opened the van door to retrieve bags of money.
They overpowered the guard and escaped with bags of money.
The suspects made a run for a silver VW Polo getaway vehicle.
Community members gave chase and were soon followed by the Fidelity vehicle, a local security company, police and MavCorp High Risk Response (who were stationed nearby).
In a shoot-out between the Fidelity guards and suspects, one of the suspects was fatally shot in the head in the VW Polo. ER24 declared the suspect dead.

One of the suspects who were chased by the community was arrested by the police while another suspect made a run for the township.
He was found hiding in a house in Lebohang by a taxi owner and MavCorp armed response guards who chased after him.
A gun that the suspect threw away when on the run and a bag of money were recovered.
According to police, three bags of money that were stolen during the robbery were recovered.
An investigation is yet to determine the total amount of cash that was stolen.
Police did not disclose how many suspects are still at large.
Three firearms were recovered of which one was a pistol and two were revolvers from the suspects.
The recovered firearms will be taken for ballistic testing.

They will appear at the Leandra Court on Wednesday, February 8.
Police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges as the investigation continues.
Police are not backing down and will continue their pursuit of the suspects that managed to evade the arrest.
Police urge anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects by calling the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or by sending information on MYSAPSAPP.

Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, has welcomed the arrest of the two suspects.
