Killer of eMbalenhle woman goes to jail for life
Aneliswa Sibali was found strangled in a room in White City (eMbalenhle) on May 30, 2024.
A 31 year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a 28-year-old woman in eMbalenhle in 2024.
Unathi Ndabemfene was convicted by the Delmas High Court and sentenced in the high court in Breyten on August 12 for strangling Aneliswa Sibali in a room in White City (eMbalenhle) on May 30, 2024. Members of the eMbalenhle police who attended the scene observed that there were no signs of forced entry.
eMbalenhle police spokesperson, Sgt Busisiwe Mthethwa, said through diligent investigative work, police identified Ndabemfene as a suspect. They also established that he had fled to the Northern Cape. The investigating team traced and arrested Ndabemfene. He was subsequently charged and brought before court.
The eMbalenhle SAPS welcomes the successful finalisation of a serious criminal matter following the conviction and life sentence.
Mthethwa said the eMbalenhle management commends the dedication and commitment displayed by the investigating team, including Detective Captain Fannie Sindane, who took over the investigation and continued driving it towards a successful conclusion after Detective Captain Melusi Mthombeni was promoted to Kwaggafontein.
The Station Commander further applauded Detective Captain Mthombeni for his outstanding investigative work, dedication, and commitment towards ensuring that perpetrators of serious crimes are brought to justice.
“Despite his promotion and transfer to Kwaggafontein, Mthombeni continues to demonstrate the true spirit of a dedicated police officer, with his commitment to community safety extending beyond eMbalenhle and contributing towards the broader mandate of creating a safer South Africa.
“Detective Captain Fannie Sindane is commended for taking over the responsibility and continuing with the work, carrying the baton forward with commitment, professionalism, and dedication in the pursuit of justice,” said Mthethwa.
eMbalenhle SAPS further acknowledges the cooperation of all role players who contributed towards ensuring that justice was served for the victim and her family.
“This sentence sends a clear message that perpetrators of murder and gender-based violence will face the full might of the law. SAPS remains committed to combating serious and violent crimes and ensuring safer communities.”
