Govan Mbeki Muncipality management urges residenta to report cable theft and vandalism.
In an effort to curb the rampant theft of cables within the Govan Mbeki Municipality, a scrap metal dealership in Kinross was closed on Thursday, (January 9), for non-compliance with municipal by-laws.
The operation was conducted jointly by the municipality’s By-Law Enforcement Unit, Fire and Rescue Services, and the police.
This forms part of an ongoing intervention aimed at addressing the growing problem of cable theft in the area.
During the operation, authorities inspected several scrap yards, issuing fines to dealers found to be operating in violation of municipal regulations.
The municipality said cable theft remains a frequent occurrence in Govan Mbeki and has a severe impact on business operations while also disrupting the provision of essential services to communities.
Municipal officials have urged all scrap metal dealers to refrain from purchasing stolen cables, warning that non-compliance will result in enforcement action.
Residents are also encouraged to remain vigilant and report to the police any incidents of cable theft, vandalism, or suspicious activities.
