Mpumalanga Education Department condemns violence at school in eMbalenhle

Parents and guardians asked to work closely with schools in promoting discipline, respect and responsible behaviour among learners.

The Mpumalanga Department of Education has expressed serious concern over recent incidents of violence reported at Kusasalethu Comprehensive School in eMbalenhle.

Department spokesperson Jasper Zwane said the incidents of fighting among learners are deeply disturbing and undermine the department’s efforts to create a safe and conducive environment for teaching and learning across schools in the province.

“The department unequivocally condemns all forms of violence, intimidation, bullying and misconduct within school premises. According to preliminary reports, the incidents involved altercations among learners that subsequently escalated into acts of violence,” said Zwane.

He said the department will deploy a team of officials to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incidents, establish the facts and identify all individuals involved.

“The officials will ensure that appropriate action, in accordance with applicable legislation and departmental policies, is taken without delay.

“The department will also provide psychosocial support services, including counselling and emotional support, to affected learners and educators,” said Zwane.

He further called on parents and guardians to work closely with schools in promoting discipline, respect and responsible behaviour among learners.

“These incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of strengthening school safety initiatives across the province. The department remains committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure that schools remain safe spaces where teaching and learning can thrive,” Zwane said.
He assured parents, learners, educators and the broader community that the department is treating the matter with the seriousness it deserves.

“The situation will continue to be closely monitored, and updates will be provided as necessary,” concluded Zwane.
