SAPS, together with Forensic Pathology Services, is appealing to the community for help in identifying two deceased men whose bodies are being kept at the government mortuary.

The bodies were discovered in separate incidents after concerned community members alerted police. In the first incident, the body of a man was found near Vuyisile Mini Street on June 22.

Police discovered a smart card identity document in the deceased’s pocket bearing the name Mfanimpela Thomas Nkosi, born on March 10, 1964.

Emergency care practitioner Susara Swart of Bethal Emergency Medical Services declared the man dead at the scene.

In the second incident, on July 2, the body of another man was found in a field near Damvaal Street. The body was discovered wrapped in a blanket by a community member, who immediately notified police.

Role players, including Bethal Emergency Medical Services, the Secunda Local Criminal Record Centre, Bethal Detectives and Forensic Pathology Services, attended the scene.

Officials from the Secunda Local Criminal Record Centre photographed and processed the scene, while emergency medical services practitioner Nompilo Mohale declared the man dead.

The body was transported to the Bethal Government Mortuary by forensic pathology officer Bakkie Jele.

Police are urging anyone who may have information about the deceased men, or who has a missing family member, to contact Detective Sergeant Linda Shabangu on 082 923 1592.

Bethal police spokesperson Sergeant Thomas Mogadime reminded the public that there is no waiting period to report a missing person.

“We encourage community members to report a missing person immediately at their nearest police station,” said Mogadime.
