Dam levels start to decrease in Mpumalanga

Grootdraai Dam dropped from 104.7% to 102.9%, while Nooitgedacht Dam declined from 100.4% to 100.1%.

According to a media statement released by the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) on May 6, dam levels in Mpumalanga have started to decline.

The latest weekly state of reservoirs report indicated that average dam levels in the province have dropped from 101.2% to 100.5%.

The Gert Sibande District average dropped from 102.0% to 101.4%, as most listed dams recorded decreases in water levels.

Grootdraai Dam dropped from 104.7% to 102.9%, while Nooitgedacht Dam declined from 100.4% to 100.1%.
Vygeboom Dam suffered a decline from 101.5% to 100.9%.

Jericho and Westoe Dam also recorded declines, dropping from 101.0% to 100.6% and 102.1% to 100.6%, respectively.

The only dam to record an increase in water levels was Morgenstond, which improved from 98.8% to 99.8%.
Heyshope Dam remained stable at 101.0%.

“As water levels start to decrease, the department urges all citizens to strengthen water conservation efforts,” stated Wisane Mavasa, spokesperson for the DWS.

The department continues to urge the public to use water sparingly as the dry season approaches.
