Evander Court intermediary calls on women to rise up for a beett says woman should stand to better their lives

She calls on all women and girls in Govan Mbeki Municipality to rise up and get support from skilled and professional women who can help them to develop their future.

Thembi Msibi, court intermediary at Evander Magistrate’s Court, said life has taught her every woman has a calling to which she has to respond and rise up.

Msibi believes her financial challenges have taught her to wake up early in the morning and to work until late at night.

She baked scones and asked unemployed youths to help her to sell them.

“I have faced many challenges intended to take me down and stop me from becoming the woman I am today,” Msibi said about her decision to share her story during Women’s Month.

“I was molested while growing up, and with lack of information and fear of coming out and reporting the abuse to my grandmother, I kept quiet.

“When a guardian is well informed about the different types of abuse and is also observant, they can tell when a child has a problem.

“My grandmother intervened and helped me to open up about my situation.

“The perpetrator was arrested, I received all the support I needed and justice was served.

Thembi Msibi, court intermediary for Evander Magistrate’s Court ,won the South African Heroines Award for 2021.

“Along the way, I managed to find myself and then focused on my school work.

“I furthered my education and joined most of the support groups for women in society and today I am successful,” said Msibi.

She is married and is a mother to twin boys and a girl.

Msibi holds a B-Tech degree in Child and Youth Development, an honours degree in Developmental Studies and a certificate in Project Management.

Being appointed as a court intermediary at Evander Magistrate’s Court in 2015 was a dream come true.

She feels blessed because she is working with the vulnerable in a community faced with many cases of gender-based violence.

“I appreciate the trust that I have received from Evander Magistrate’s Court and Regional office.

“I use my listening skills to send our client to the relevant stakeholders to ensure that every client who comes to court with a problem receives support and help, even if the problem does not need the court’s attention.”

Msibi respects all issues of gender-based violence by treating the victims with dignity, confidentiality and the appropriate response.

“Our ambassadors, Flora Maboa-Boltman and Ncumisa Mdlankomo have groomed me and allowed me a chance to learn and grow in the field of being a flexible government official who serves her community with pride,” said Msibi.

She calls on all women and girls in Govan Mbeki Municipality to rise up and get support from skilled and professional women who can help them to develop their future.

“I call out to all women and men to implement projects in their communities to fight poverty.”
“Help our young women to make an income by using their hands. Teach them to stop waiting for men with salaries but sell vetkoek, sandwiches and stew plates.”

Court intermediary at Evander, Thembi Msibi, said women must stand up for their future.
