Liquor Forum meets in Bronkhorstspruit
Tavern and shebeen owners were told to comply with the Gauteng Liquor Act (Act 2 of 2003).
The office of the station commander, visible policing commander, social crime prevention and corporate communication, the Gauteng Liquor Board together with Bronkhorstspruit Liquor traders held a follow-up meeting on Monday, September 12.
According to the police in Bronkhorstspruit, the purpose of the seating was to address social ills that emanate as a result of alcohol consumption and criminal activities, which are taking place in taverns and shebeens such as murder and assaults.
The Gauteng Liquor Board provided information regarding steps that should be followed when applying for a liquor licence and how permit holders should operate.

Tavern and shebeen owners were told to comply with the Gauteng Liquor Act (Act 2 of 2003).
“SAPS provided details to tavern and shebeen owners about what they will be looking for when visiting shebeens and taverns,” said Constable Cathrine Ramovha, corporate communications officer for the Bronkhorstspruit Police.
Bronkhorstspruit Station commander, Colonel Maqhawe Dhladhla shared some information with regards to the bribing of police officers.
Dhladhla encouraged the public to report corrupt officers and those who demand and collect bribes during the performance of their duties.

Dhladhla emphasised that all fines should be paid at the police station.
“No on-the-spot fines should be paid,” said Dhladhla.
In conclusion, the station commander thanked everyone who attended the meeting.
“Traders expressed their gratitude for the initiative as it was very informative and helpful,” said Ramovha.
“Bronkhorstspruit police are looking forward to take hands with the liquor traders in combating crime and addressing social ills.”
