Grootdraai Dam in Standerton still at 102.4%
The average water levels in Mpumalanga dropped from 97.4% to 96.7%
Grootdraai Dam in the Integrated Vaal River System in the Gert Sibande District in Mpumalanga recorded unchanged water levels.
According to the latest Department of Water and Sanitation weekly state of reservoirs report dated January 16, the dam remained above full capacity at 102.4%.
The other listed dam that recorded unchanged water levels is the Vygeboom Dam which recorded the same 101.1% as last week.
Nooitgedacht and Morgenstond dams recorded some improvements, increasing from 100.0% to 100.4% and 98.7% to 98.8% respectively.
On the decline mode, Jericho dropped from 100.7% to 99.8%, Westoe from 100.0% to 99.1% and Heyshope from 100.5% to 100.4%.
The average water levels in Mpumalanga dropped from 97.4% to 96.7%.
The weekly report also shows that water levels dropped in the water management areas (WMA), with the Olifants WMA dropping from 86.0% to 85.1% and the Inkomati-Usuthu WMA dropping from 99.4% to 98.4%.
The department encouraged the public to use available water sparingly as South Africa is a water-scarce country and every drop counts, especially near the end of the rainy season.
