Social worker in Standerton committed to helping the community
Volunteering in White River at the Nhlengo Youth Care Centre brought her into contact with teenagers at the different schools.
Leanne Fakude is the new social worker at the SAVF in Schwickard Street, Standerton. This young woman from White River took up her duties on January 3.
She grew up in Mshadza in the Lowveld and after matriculating in 2004 decided not to follow in the footsteps of her parents, who both are teachers.
Leanne enrolled for a three-year course in public relations at North-West University and completed a diploma.
She took up residence on the Mahikeng-campus, but a career-changing decision followed.
“I began studying social work through Unisa in 2012 and graduated in 2016,” she said.

She was quite outspoken about the biggest problems for that age group.
“Teenage pregnancies and the drop-out rate had to be dealt with,” Leanne added.
She has found accommodation in town and will find time for listening to gospel music and R & B. This middle child believes in having a hands-on approach to her work.
“I am hoping and willing to give it my all to help the community,” she concluded.
