Grootdraai Dam in Standerton stands at 101.1%

The dam in the Gert Sibande District recorded a drop in level after remaining unchanged for the past week.
According to the Department of Water and Sanitation’s state of reservoirs report dated January 23, there was a decline last week from 102.4% to 101.1%.
Most of the listed dams in the district also recorded declines in water levels, except for the Morgenstond Dam, which recorded a slight increase from 98.8% to 99.3%. The Vygeboom Dam is unchanged from last week’s 101.1%.

The other dams that recorded declines in the district include Nooitgedacht Dam from 100.4% to 100.1%, Jericho Dam from 99.8% to 98.9%, Westoe Dam from 99.1% to 98.3% and Heyshope Dam from 100.4% to 100.1%.
This is a mirror of the overall situation in Mpumalanga. According to the report, the average water levels dropped from 97.1% to 96.8%.
The report also shows that water levels in the water management areas (WMA) continue to drop, with the Olifants WMA dropping from 85.1% to 84.9% and the Inkomati-Usuthu WMA dropping from 99.2% to 99.0%.
The department encouraged the public to use the available water wisely and sparingly and remember that South Africa is a water-scarce country and every drop counts because water has no substitute.
