Grootdraai Dam in Standerton drops from 101.9% to 101.4%
All the listed dams in the Gert Sibande District recorded declines in levels.
Mpumalanga’s average dam levels have dipped below 100%. The Department of Water and Sanitation encouraged the public to continue using water sparingly.
According to the weekly state of reservoirs report, dated March 13, levels dropped from 100.1% to 99.6%, while the Olifants water management area dropped from 90.4% to 90.2%, and the Inkomati-Usuthu water management area from 101.1% to 100.6%.
Despite the average drop, most of the listed dams are still above 100%.
In the districts, Ehlanzeni dropped from 101.4% to 101.0%, Gert Sibande from 101.2% to 100.6% and Nkangala from 97.0% to 96.7%.

All the listed dams in the Gert Sibande District recorded declines in levels, with Grootdraai Dam dropping from 101.9% to 101.4%, Nooitgedacht from 101.1% to 100.7%, Vygeboom from 102.2% to 100.7%, Jericho from 101.8% to 99.8%, Westoe from 99.6% to 99.4%, Morgenstond from 100% to 98.4% and Heyshope from 100.9% to 100.8%.
The department reminded the public that South Africa is a water-scarce country. This calls for the conservative use of water because there is no substitute for it.
They also reminded people that water supply security depends on responsible actions and behaviour by every citizen.
