Cullinan Rugby Club beats Eersterust
The day began on a sad note when the teams heard about Andries Bouwer’s passing.
Cullinan’s two rugby teams faced Eersterust Rugby Club earlier this month. The day began on a sad note when the teams heard about Andries Bouwer’s passing.
“Andries was a big spirit in the Cullinan rugby circles, and he recently became involved again in a coaching capacity. We, as a club, as friends, will miss him dearly,” said coach André van der Merwe.
Bouwer’s sons, Brian and JP Bouwer, are well-known players and still play in Cullinan.
The second teams’ match saw some beautiful running rugby, with Cullinan winning comfortably 28-0.

The first team’s match, also fast-paced, was neck and neck throughout the game, with the score constantly fluctuating.
Eersterust had a strong team, but Cullinan beat them by applying pressure and good discipline throughout.
“I am truly proud of all my players. They showed true character,” said Van der Merwe.
The final score was Cullinan 35-29 Eersterust.
