Get ready for SA’s toughest one-day gravel grinder from Cullinan to Tonteldoos
Riders only have one day to finish. They start at sunrise, and most riders can expect to finish at about midnight.
From sunrise to sunset and into the night, the gravel-grinding odyssey from Cullinan to Dunkeld Country Estate in Tonteldoos will be life-changing, said the organisers of South Africa’s toughest one-day MTB event.
Cyclists will find unspoiled scenery, open gravel roads and a tough 20km climb to the finish on already-spent legs. And this makes this race the toughest of them all.
The event, which is on April 22, kicks off in Cullinan and will be on district and farm roads with breathtaking scenery and non-technical riding conditions.
The second half will be more challenging, warned organisers, because it is full of uphill drags and at a higher altitude. The routes are not marked, and the roads will not be closed for the event.
Event organisers urge riders to be cautious of traffic at all times and make 100% sure it is safe to go before crossing roads.
The second half, done after dark, means a set of lights is compulsory. All GPS route files and checkpoint information will be provided before the race starts.
