Children’s home from Bronkhorstspruit gets spoiled for Easter

Kids from Sizanani Children's Home for the Disabled took part in an Easter egg hunt on Carl Krohn's farm.

Carl Krohn, known as the ‘Engelsman’ or the ‘Inventor’ in Bronkhorstspruit, hosts an Easter egg hunt every Easter for the local community, on his farm, Mount Silic.

This year, he kept to the tradition by hosting it for the Sizanani Children’s Home for the Disabled.

According to Krohn, society often neglects and abandons these children, and only one of the children in the home receives family visits.

Sponsors for the event, which took place on April 8, was challenging, said Krohn, but despite this, they were able to secure sponsorship from various businesses in town and a private citizen. While the sponsors did not cover the entire cost of the event, Krohn was grateful for each donation.

“It is heartbreaking to see these innocent children trapped in their bodies. Some of them can only move their eyes, yet they still managed to help get themselves onto the bus.

“It’s a sight that would bring tears to anyone’s eyes. Witnessing the smiles on their faces, despite their difficult circumstances, was truly priceless,” continued Krohn.

According to Krohn, there were ‘angels’, such as two taxi drivers from Bronkhorstspruit, Aubrey and Ibrahim, who provided their services at a special rate.

They also helped to lift some of the children from their wheelchairs and carried them onto the bus, while they loaded their wheelchairs onto a bakkie.

He also praised the caretakers of the children for their love and dedication, as some of the children are even unable to feed themselves.

Krohn also wants to express his gratitude to the housemother from the children’s home for allowing them to come out for the day.

“I am grateful to God for giving me the strength to organise this event and as my slogan states, ‘Powered by God’. I believe it was His will that made this day possible.”

Krohn encourages anyone to visit these precious children at Sizanani Children’s Home for the Disabled. According to him, it is an eye-opening experience and a reminder of how much we have to be grateful for.

Readers who can donate or contribute may contact Carl Krohn at 071 868 0731. Their basic needs, like food and mattresses, are needed.
