Three caught red-handed with Transnet cables in Delmas
The three suspects were cornered and found in possession of eight bundles of copper cables, a bolt cutter and two conjoined wooden poles, possibly used to hook off the cables.
A Mozambican national and a security guard were among three arrested recently for tampering with essential infrastructure.
They were arrested in Delmas in the early hours of May 11.
According to a media statement released on May 12 by the provincial commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, the suspects were spotted by a drone while cutting overhead Transnet cables.
The security company responsible for securing the premises was alerted and immediately called for backup from the Delmas Police.

Security officials and the Delmas Police members attended the scene at Dryden in Delmas.

The suspects were arrested for tampering with essential infrastructure and possessing suspected stolen property.
They appeared in the Delmas District Court on May 12. The three suspects are between 20 and 35 years old.
Manamela commended the teamwork by the police and security personnel.
