Police tackle crime with joint operation in Bronkhorstspruit

Several people were arrested over the weekend.

Several suspects were arrested in Bronkhorstspruit over the weekend.

Under the leadership of Tshwane police district commissioner Major General Azwinndini Nengovhela, the police focused on Bronkhorstspruit with Operation Okae Molao.

This operation involved a coordinated effort from multiple entities, including the Departments of Home Affairs, Correctional Services, Community Safety, Labour Department, Gauteng Traffic Department, Tshwane Metro Police, crime prevention wardens, community policing forums (CPF), local councillors and members from various police stations and units operating within the Tshwane policing area.

The operation included high-visibility patrols in crime hotspots, compliance inspections, and raids on illegal liquor outlets.

Constable Munyadziwa Cathrine Ramovha, communication officer for Bronkhorstspruit police, said three uniformed groups consisting of two compliance teams and a roadblock unit visited 12 premises.

“They inspected two liquor outlets, closed them and confiscated the liquor for violating the liquor act.

“Four suspects were apprehended for dealing in dagga, and they confiscated 2.5kg of dagga, along with almost R2 000,” said Ramovha.

She said a VW Golf was confiscated and examined due to tampering with the chassis number.

“During a multidisciplinary roadblock, they detained 26 undocumented immigrants and issued 118 Aarto fines, amounting to R53,310.

“During the operation, they searched 425 individuals and 224 vehicles,” said Ramovha.

Colonel Maqhawe Dhladhla, station commander of Bronkhorstspruit Police Station, thanked the Tshwane police district commissioner and the team for the successful operation.

“Bronkhorstspruit police warn the community about criminal activities in our policing precinct,” Ramovha said.

According to her, rapes targeting young girls have been reported at the Bronkhorstspruit police.

“We plead with parents to look after their daughters and ensure they do not walk alone in the streets.

“We also request parents to be sure their children do not play around vacant houses or land.”

Ramovha said police are investigating these rape cases, and information is still sensitive. She also warned motorists about hijackings in the area.

“In most cases, the victims stopped along the road to either relieve themselves or to pick up hitchhikers.”
Ramovha cautioned motorists not to stop along the road.

“Don’t be a victim. Check your surroundings if you have to stop. Avoid driving at unsafe times, especially when roads are quiet,” advised Ramovha.
