Lekwa mayor intent on a cleaner environment
“This is part of rehabilitating the town and is expected to be implemented in all the wards,” Thabethe said.
Delani Louis Thabethe, executive mayor of the Lekwa Municipality, launched a clean-up campaign on July 5 in a bid to create a cleaner environment.
According to a statement from the communications manager, Lubabalo Majenge, the campaign kicked off in Burger Street where the mayor rolled up his sleeves to sweep the street.
Members of the mayoral committee joined him.
“This is part of rehabilitating the town and is expected to be implemented in all the wards,” Thabethe said.
“In as much as the municipality is trying to deal with the service delivery backlog, we also want to clean the municipality.”
He called on residents to play their part by not dumping rubbish illegally.
“Part of the programme is to encourage shop owners and building owners to take stock of not only their building but also their surroundings. Some business owners are deliberately dumping waste in front of their shops.”
