Secunda actress Dineo lands lead role in MTV Shuga Down South
Secunda actress Dineo Rasedile has done it again landing herself a lead role alongside Ayanda Makayi (Sol) in the third season of MTV Shuga Down South.
Local actress Dineo Rasedile (32) has landed herself a lead role in the third season of MTV’s Shuga Down South.
The first episode premiered on June 27 and the season features 10 episodes.
Dineo’s first appearance was in the second season, as a supporting role of Thuli, Sol’s sister.
Those who watched season two can recall the final episode of siblings Sol and Thuli, whose mother Amahle died at the hands of their father, Mthunzi, in a domestic attack.
The new season, which is centered around Sol and Thuli’s storyline and some new characters, begins on the hills of Kwa-Zulu Natal, three years later, where Thuli lives with her aunt Julia and cousin Mbuso.
Julia shows no emotional support and blames Thuli when she tries to speak out about threats of violence and a near rape by Mbuso. Thuli is left with no choice but to escape.
In the meantime, Sol finds himself in Johannesburg struggling to make ends meet and seeking career opportunities as a driver since he is experienced in the taxi industry.

Will his criminal record and serving prison time for the death of his girlfriend Tsholo catch up to him when trying to fit back into society?
Not much can be given away in upcoming episodes, however, viewers can stay tuned every Tuesday at 21:00 on BET Channel 129.
Re-runs can also be viewed on YouTube the day after episodes aired. The telenovel series highlights GBV, sexual violence, TB and HIV prevention and treatment, family planning and contraceptives, and the LGBTQ+ community.
In a one-on-one interview with the Ridge Times, Dineo speaks on her latest role.
“The seasons are focused around young people to make smarter and safer choices around sexual health and substance abuse and how to navigate through it,” said Dieno.
She said she has learned a lot from this lead role, as one of the characters she plays alongside fights substance abuse.
“There were so many things I was not aware of when it comes to substance abuse. Even a storyline of TB, I had no idea that it is still so rife and that the treatment is so readily available, even though there is still such a huge stigma around it,” said Dineo.

She said out of all the shows she has featured, MTV Shuga Down South is different and goes beyond the screen. It pushes her in wanting to do more in highlighting different struggles in everyday life.
As for her main character role in this season, she said it was tough in comparison to her last season’s supporting role.
“It was tough to shoot both physically and mentally. A lot of research went into the preparation and definitely way more lines this time around,” said Dineo.
She explained that there were various location shoots they had to travel to with KZN being a week-long shoot.
“In the first scene, you will see me running up a hill. A take can be shot up to 20 times. Each take you have to keep running like your running for your life,” said Dineo.
She said the beaches and scenery while filming in KZN were gorgeous and the community was most welcoming.

Dineo continues to grow with every role she has taken on. She has seen herself take on roles in Justice Served, SABC’s TV series Ambitions, a UK-featured film Sulphur and White, Scandal, a Netherlands series Commandos, featured in a role in the paranormal series Dead Places and landed a few TV commercials.
“It has been exciting. I appreciate the beautiful journey and growth.”
When graduating from the Performing Arts School in 2017, Dineo said landing lead roles is not something that happened overnight.
“Since 2017 I have been consistently working on TV commercials, shows, films, and series. Right now I am the most confident I have ever been.”
She said with every audition she gives her best. She never sees a role that she did not get as a bad thing but views it as a learning curve.
