Water level at Grootdraai Dam in Standerton drop to 94.5%
Gert Sibande was the only district that recorded a drop in water levels in Mpumalanga.
The latest Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) state of reservoirs report, dated July 10, showed that Gert Sibande was the only district to record a drop in water levels in Mpumalanga.
According to the report, water levels in the district dropped from 96.3% to 96.1%.
The other two districts in the province remained unchanged, with Ehlanzeni staying at 99.8% and Nkangala at 99.6%.
The weekly report also showed that Mpumalanga recorded a slight average dam level drop from 98.1% to 98.0%.
In the Water Management Areas (WMAs), the Olifants WMA dropped from 90.0% to 89.8%, and the Inkomati-Usuthu WMA from 98.2% to 98.1%.
For the listed dams in the district, only Vygeboom Dam recorded an improvement in volumes by slightly increasing from 100.3% to 100.4%, and Heyshope Dam remained unchanged at 100.0%.
On the decline mode, Grootdraai Dam dropped from 94.8% to 94.5%, Nooitgedacht from 97.8% to 97.4%, Jericho from 87.5% to 87.0%, Westoe from 74.6% to 72.9% and Morgenstond from 99.3% to 99.1%.
The department encouraged the public to continue using water wisely and sparingly.
They reminded the public that water conservation is crucial to water supply security as SA is a water-scarce country where every drop counts.
