Lekwa Aids council reviews plan on diseases and social ills
The mayor said Lekwa was responsible for rebuilding bridges with all stakeholders, including a multi-sectoral structure, such as the local Aids council, to intensify the response to the diseases and social ills.
Delani Louis Thabethe, the executive mayor of the Lekwa Municipality, welcomed a review of the Multi-Sectoral Local Aids Council Implementation Plan this past week.
The meeting was held at the council chamber to identify areas that need special attention in responding to HIV and Aids, TB and social ills that included gender-based violence and femicide.
According to a statement from Lekwa, Thabethe said in his welcoming remarks that the municipality had a role in delivering services that benefited the souls of its residents by addressing social ills.
“Some of which are coming up because of unemployment and a lack of housing development, among others,” he said.
“The need to build the social aspect of our municipality is crucial. When there is a lack of housing development, for example, it leads to people sharing one shack, and other social ills come up.”

Thabethe added that Lekwa was responsible for rebuilding bridges with all stakeholders, including a multi-sectoral structure, such as the local Aids council, to intensify the response to the aforementioned diseases and social ills.
“These remain challenges in our society and continue to affect our people’s lives.
“This is why we need this structure to come up with collective and multi-prolonged efforts to combat them.”
The mayor concluded, saying there had to be fewer boardroom meetings and these programmes must touch communities directly.
“I would be happy to be invited by this structure to a programme held at townships and informal settlements.”
