Sasol employees joined the world in honouring the legacy of Nelson Mandela.
Sasol employees joined the world in honouring the legacy of Nelson Mandela through its employee initiative, Sasol for Good, on July 18.
Efforts focused this year on bringing comfort to victims of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) in Tshwane’s Region Seven around the Ekandustria communities.
Employees contributed 67 minutes of their time on the Ekandustria Operations Site to pack 350 dignity packs for new mothers and 350 carry bags with newborn nappies, a baby grows, baby vest, receiving blanket, beanie, socks, aqueous cream, wet wipes, barrier cream, baby soap and face cloth.
They donated the packs to the Bronkhorstspruit Hospital, which will distribute them to mothers in need in the Region Seven communities.

According to Thuli Mbuli, head of community affairs at Sasol’s Sasolburg and Ekandustria operations, the statistics on GBVF shared by the South African Police Service earlier this year paint a bleak picture, especially in Gauteng, where crime in which the victims were the targets of violence, increased by 1 086 from January to March compared to the same period in 2022.
“In response to the scourge of GBVF, our commitment to effect positive change spurred us on, as stated in our Promise to Society and our duty of care and accountability.
“We might not influence these statistics directly, but we can contribute to easing the impact of these crimes through our Sasol for Good efforts to support victims of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide around our fence line communities,” said Mbuli.
As a further commitment to honour the legacy of Madiba, Sasol donated blankets, duvets, sheets, pillows and a deep freeze to the Mali Martin Polokegong Centre in Region Seven that renders support to GBVF and victims of human trafficking, as well as homeless individuals.
