Women’s Month: Meet Nthabiseng Tsatsi
In celebration of Women's Month, Graceland honours their financial manager Nthabiseng.
In celebration of #WomensMonth, Graceland Hotel Casino and Country Club honours their financial manager, Nthabiseng Tsatsi.
Years of service at Graceland: five years.
Q: Tell us about yourself and your family?
A: “I am married and have two daughters, aged 19 and 11 years old. I am away from them during the week and spend time with them on the weekends at our home in Boksburg.”
Q: How do you balance a career and being away from your family?
A: “It is hard being away from one’s family. Luckily, I have a very strong support system and a great husband that takes care of them while I’m away. Technology has also made it easier to communicate, especially with video calls. I give my best to the company during the week and the weekends are family time.”
Q: Describe your position as a financial manager and your leadership style
A: “To ensure that Graceland operates effectively and efficiently within the budget constraints. Also, to support the operations while providing the financial information needed to make good business decisions. My leadership style is simply based on treating everyone with equal respect. Treat people the way you want to be treated.”
Q: Who inspires you and why?
A: “Women who are successful in life. Whether they are running a small business, big business, or corporate. I believe in the saying that “If you educate a woman then you educate the nation.”.
Q: What has been the most significant part of your career?
A: “It’s growth. Looking back from my humble beginnings to where I am now and where I am still going.”
Q: Have you ever been treated differently, being a woman, in a management position?
A: “Reality is that you will always get those people. I always try and send good energy to everyone and just hope to receive it back.”
Q: How do you encourage women not to give up on a career:
A: “My philosophy is that it is not always about you. You need to think about people who are looking up to you. Especially as a mother, think about what you are teaching your children. They need to learn from you that when times are tough we hold strong and change plans but we do not quit.”
Q: What, do you think are the challenges women in business face today?
A: “We still have a lot of challenges and barriers. Women have proven themselves that they can be pregnant and still work, have a baby and still go back to work straight after, be the boss at work and still come back home to be a wife.”
Q: Have you ever faced barriers being a woman in a career?
A: “I have no time for barriers, I break them.”
Q: Is gender equality important to you and why?
A: “I believe in respecting each and every gender in the way God made us. For me, equality is being allowed to do the best that you can, whether you are a man or woman. We all have our strengths and weaknesses, but together we can balance each other out.”
