Schools visit Cullinan Mine
About 300 learners were shown the mine and other attractions in Cullinan.
Several schools brought their learners to Cullinan on 2 August for a tour through the Cullinan Mine.
These schools included Cultura from Bronkhorsrspruit, the Deutsche Schule in Pretoria and a school in Limpopo.
About 300 learners toured the mine.
The learners saw the history of Cullinan throughout the whole town.
After their mine tour, the learners went to the Italian Cemetery, where Italian soldiers who died in the prisoners of war camps during WWII are buried.
Ward 100 Clor Johannes Bekker said, “Educational tourism is a carefully planned combination of school tours, site visits and hands-on learning opportunities, built around clear learning objectives. It’s a tool for learning and success, with fun and excitement as part of the itinerary.
“An educational tour is one of the best tools we can use to provide every student with real-world experiences.
“Whether that’s a trip to the Active Diamond Mine, a library, a museum, a theatre, a POW cemetery, a community garden or a restaurant, each experience a student participates in contributes to their understanding of the world,” said Bekker.
