Water levels at Grootdraai Dam in Standerton stand at 80.4%
According to the Department of Water and Sanitation’s state of reservoirs report, dated December 4, the levels dropped from 91.2% to 90.6%, lower than the 92.8% recorded during the same period last year.
Average dam levels in Mpumalanga are on the decline after a slight improvement last week.

In the Water Management Areas, the Olifants dropped from 84.2% to 83.5%, higher than the 82.5% of last year.
Inkomathi-Usuthu dropped from 91.5% to 91.1%, lower than the 94.7% of last year.
District-wise, Ehlanzeni dropped from 91.4% to 90.7%, higher than the 88.8% of last year, while Gert Sibande dropped from 87.8% to 87.4%, lower than the 98.3% of last year and Nkangala from 96.8% to 95.8%, higher than last year’s 87.6%.

Vygeboom Dam in the Gert Sibande District is the only dam recording an improvement, from 100.5% to 100.6%, while Jericho Dam remained unchanged at 77.6%.
Grootdraai Dam on our doorstep, dropped from 81.3% to 80.4%, Nooitgedacht from 83.4% to 82.8%, Westoe from 39.4% to 38.4%, Morgenstond from 95.6% to 95.4% and Heyshope from 97.5% to 97.4%.
The department encouraged the public to be responsible water users and use it wise, sparingly and responsibly.
Their report concluded by saying South Africa is a water-scarce country and it is everybody’s responsibility to ensure water security and reliable supply for current and future generations.
