Famsa supports survivors of abuse in eMbalenhle
Community can support upcoming projects of organisation.
Social workers from Famsa reached out and gave dignity boxes to rape survivors on December 1 at the Sasol Club in eMbalenhle.
Famsa joined hands with Thuthuzela Care Centre, in Evander, the national prosecuting authority, Childline and various counsellors of eMbalenhle to run this project.
Marcelle Victor, provincial director of Famsa, said this project aimed to celebrate and appreciate the survivors of gender-based violence.
They hosted this event to commemorate the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children.
Several role players, including survivors, Tracy Keen-Horak (state advocate) and Thembi Msibi from the Department of Justice, gave motivational speeches and encouraged the women.
Two social auxiliary workers from Famsa, Portia Sikhosana and Judith Madungandaba, coordinated the event.
Sikhosana said they want to encourage women to get out of abusive relationships, find a place of safety and get a good support system.
The management board of Famsa sponsored and collected the boxes and the items in the boxes and the Secunda community.
A total of 50 boxes were handed out and Famsa’s management team encouraged the community to continue to support such projects.
