Animal welfare organisation from Secunda urges people not to set off fireworks

Little Paws Big Hearts (LPBH) has already had their first two outreach days for the year, and their next one is on January 27.

Local animal welfare organisation Little Paws Big Hearts (LPBH) worked until late last year when they did a final outreach.

Although LPBH only received one call during the festive and New Year season about an animal injured because of fireworks, they urged people not to set off fireworks.

Sonja Kempen from LPBH said people should consider a few things before setting off fireworks.

“The effect of these thunderous explosions on wildlife and domestic animals should be considered,” said Kempen.

“Fireworks cause pollution to the environment and affect dementia patients. They should also consider the child and slave labour synonymous with the production of fireworks, and the health implications of the exploding chemicals.”

LPBH has already had their first two outreach days for the year, and their next one is on January 27.

Volunteers are welcome to join them, and people wanting to support them by donating dog food or money can call Sonja Kempen on 062 326 9404.
