Water levels at Grootdraai Dam on an upward curve
The report also shows that Mpumalanga recorded a 0.4% improvement on average levels, increasing from 96.9% to 97.3%.
Grootdraai Dam continues to improve above 90%.
According to a statement from the Department of Water and Sanitation, dated January 24, Grootdraai Dam in the Integrated Vaal River System in the Gert Sibande District of Mpumalanga, has water volumes above the 90% mark.
The weekly state of reservoirs report, dated January 22, shows an improvement in water levels and recorded a 1.8% increase from last week’s 90.5% to 92.3%.
The other listed dams that recorded improvements in the district include Westoe and Morgenstond dams which increased from 56.3% to 59.7% and 96.0% to 96.3% respectively.
Declining in water levels, Nooitgedacht dropped from 100.0% to 99.6%, Jericho from 77.6% to 77.0%, and Heyshope from 100.5% to 100.2%.
Vygeboom Dam remained unchanged at 100.9%.
In terms of district water levels, Gert Sibande increased from 93.7% to 94.3%, Nkangala increased from 99.1% to 99.7% and Ehlanzeni remained unchanged at 100.0%.
The report also shows that Mpumalanga recorded a 0.4% improvement on average levels, increasing from 96.9% to 97.3%.
In the water management areas, the Olifants increased from 87.0% to 87.4%, while Inkomati-Usuthu WMA slightly dropped from 97.4% to 97.3%.
The department urged the public to continue using available water wisely, sparingly and in a more conservative manner.
They said South Africa is a water-scarce country where every drop counts.
