Hit-and-run in Secunda green strip leaves man with broken foot
The Ridge Times obtained video footage of a lad seen leaving the scene on his white off-road motorbike.
A hit-and-run case was opened with police when a man, Vusi Mnguni (42), was hit by a motorcyclist in the green strip area near Waterkant Street on February 1 at around 17:30.
The Ridge Times obtained video footage of a lad seen leaving the scene on his white off-road motorbike.
According to the information received, this was after the lad knocked over Mnguni, went to ask Mnguni if he was okay, apparently made a phone call, and then fled the scene without getting help.
“That young man has no shame,” said Mnguni, a garden worker.
“He asked me if I was okay, and when I told him I was not, he got on his motorbike, fled, and left me lying on the ground in pain.”

Nearby residents saw Mnguni and phoned for help. He was taken to Evander Hospital by ambulance.
Mnguni said he had undergone an X-ray, and the doctor said the bone in his left foot was broken. He now has to use crutches to move about.
“I work in gardens to make a living. I cannot go to work and don’t have other means to survive,” concluded Mnguni.
Mnguni’s employer said the motorcyclist had been seen in the park before.
“Motorbikes should not be allowed on the green strip where people walk. I do not want to ruin a kid’s life, but I want him to take responsibility for his actions,” she said.
