eMzinoni woman died in an accident back from ANC event

Jerry Sindane, who was also in the minibus when it rolled, was injured.

ANC member Bongekile Mahlangu from eMzinoni was critically injured in an accident and later died in hospital.
Other locals were also injured in the same accident when their minibus collided with another car in Carolina on their way back from Nelspruit on January 13.

They were attending the ANC January 8 Statement event at the Mbombela Stadium. Mahlangu was buried on January 20. Jerry Sindane, who was also in the minibus when it rolled, was injured.

According to Sindane, the Govan Mbeki Municipality MMC for Revenue Enhancement, Jabu Zwane, took him from the accident scene to be admitted at Bethal Hospital. He received pain tablets and was discharged the next day.

“I continued drinking the tablets, but the pain remained unbearable. I was unable to pass urine or use the toilet and was in severe pain. I eventually was taken to a private hospital in Benoni where X-rays revealed I sustained internal injuries in the accident,” he said.

Sindane’s colon and bladder are among the internal organs allegedly injured in the accident. His lower abdomen was also swelling up.

He has been discharged from the hospital for now but has to return to Benoni for follow-up treatments. The municipality Mayor Nhlakanipho Zuma said they heard Sindane was admitted to the hospital at Carolina, not Bethal.

Zuma confirmed while Sindane was at home, he complained about pain. He was then taken to Benoni where the doctors told him that he had blood clots. Zuma said Sindane was operated on and later discharged. He is currently undergoing medical treatment.

In another accident, five people died when a bus from Limpopo carrying ANC supporters to the party’s January 8 celebrations in Mpumalanga overturned on January 13.

About 47 people were reported to have been injured and transferred to a hospital in Mopani.
