What is the Community Policing Forum about?

Bronkhorstspruit CPF needs more members.

The CPF has one major task, which is to oversee the functions of the local police station. Patrolling is the second most important function while reaction to crime scenes is supposed to be forming a barrier around the scene.

However, in cases where the CPF arrives first on an active crime scene, for example a burglary in process or someone being hurt or hijacked, the CPF must act to stop the crime in process.

Maryna Fondse, the deputy chairperson of the Bronkhorstspruit CPF said it is every resident’s responsibility to report any form of crime to the local police station.

If not, people endanger their own safety as each police station’s budget and personnel is determined according to the crime statistics of the relevant station.

“The CPF needs more people from the community to join so that they can have at least three CPF members on every block.

“Members are allowed to join just to patrol their blocks by foot and need to arrange block meetings so the people can get to know each other.”

“The Erasmus CPF is also in dire need of equipment due to their unique function such as ten vehicle radios, identifying reflective jackets, bulletproof vests, fuel sponsors and printing paper,” said Fondse.

If any business would be willing to sponsor them, they are welcome to contact Mark Niemand (Erasmus CPF Chair) at 073 602 2172 or Maryna Fondse (Deputy Chair) at 082 326 8082.
