Bronkhorstspruit resident receives full scholarship

Shaun Toka (24), a resident from Bronkhorstspruit who attended Ekangala Comprehensive High School, received an opportunity to study for a Higher Certificate in Paralegal Practice.

He is one of the 31 recipients of a bursary to study at Boston City Campus handed out as part of reigning Miss South Africa Natasha Joubert’s educational advocacy campaign, the Natasha Joubert Collective.

Joubert launched a partnership last year with her alma mater, Boston City Campus, to award 31 academic scholarships to study at Boston City Campus for distance e-learning studies towards a full-time undergraduate qualification.

The Study Buddy Fund partnered with the Miss South Africa Organisation to fund year-long studies at Boston City Campus.

“I am my parents’ only child. They are incredibly supportive and happy for me for this amazing opportunity. Their love and encouragement mean everything to me,” said Toka.

He is passionate about the law and has always been fascinated by the intricate workings of the legal system. This chance to pursue a Higher Certificate in Paralegal Practice aligns perfectly with career aspirations, as it will equip him with the necessary skills to excel as a paralegal and allow him to gain specialised knowledge that would be invaluable in his future career.

“This scholarship means the world to me. It represents a chance to further my education, pursue my dreams, and positively impact my community. I am truly grateful for this opportunity and the doors it will open for me,” said Toka.

A diverse group of individuals who made a positive impact in their respective fields and communities inspires him.

One of the role models in his life is Malala Yousafzai, the youngest Nobel Prize laureate, for her courage and dedication to advocating for girls’ education worldwide.

“Her resilience in the face of adversity and her commitment to creating change are truly inspiring.”

He also looks up to our own Nelson Mandela, whose legacy of forgiveness, reconciliation and social justice continues to inspire people around the world.

“His commitment to equality and unity serves as a guiding light for me in my own journey.”

Toka said, “In 10 years, I envision myself as a successful professional, making a difference in my community and beyond.

“I will use the opportunities and experiences from Miss South Africa Natasha Joubert to inspire and uplift others, creating a positive impact that lasts for generations.

“I am excited and grateful for the journey ahead with Boston City Campus. I am committed to using this opportunity to advocate for important causes, empower those around me, and be a positive role model for young people everywhere,” said Toka.
