Evander Police arrest mom who dumped her baby

The woman (25) applied for bail at Evander Magistrate’s Court.

The woman who dumped her newborn daughter in a drain in an open field near Gert Sibande College on April 4 was arrested on April 8.

The 25-year-old appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted murder.

She was caught out when she went to Evander Hospital for a check-up after giving birth to her baby in the field at about 06:30 on April 4.

The woman was admitted to the hospital and treated for a miscarriage. The hospital staff later realised she was the mother whom the police were looking for.

They interrogated the woman, and she eventually admitted the baby was hers.

She allegedly did not know she was pregnant and panicked when she gave birth.

She appeared in court again on April 12 for a formal bail application.
