Dam levels in Mpumalanga increase

While some dams in the Gert Sibande district has recorded increases in water levels, some dams continue to suffer declines.

As dam levels return to normal, the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) continues to observe improvements in water levels in Mpumalanga.

According to the latest state of reservoirs report for January 20, most listed dams in Mpumalanga have seen a great increase in water levels, from 93.1% to 94.9%.

Water levels in the Gert Sibande District increased from 97.5% to 97.8%.

The statement details that most dams in the Gert Sibande District have recorded improvements, with some recording declines.

Grootdraai dam increased by 0.5%, bringing the total water volume up to 103.8%.

Jericho dam recorded an increase from 77.7% to 80.4%.

Westoe dam increased from 71.4% to 89.3% and Morgenstond from 62.2% to 75.9%.

Three dams in the Gert Sibande Dstrict recorded declines, however, all three still retain high water levels.

Nooitgedacht Dam declined from 104.6% to 99.0%, Vygeboom declined from 105.7% to 101.1% and Heyshope from 104.2% to 100.7%.

The DWS urges the public to use water sparingly and prevent loss of the precious resource by reporting and fixing water leaks.
