Baloons for slain matriculant from eMbalenhle

The organisers said this event was held in preparation for a march to the Department of Education's circuit office on Friday.

Thomas Nhlabathi Secondary School learners, ommunity members and Kelvin Madikgetla’s family held a balloon send-off memorial for Kelvin today, April 27, at the scene where he was allegedly stabbed by a Grade 10 learner on February 27.

He died in the local clinic later on the same day.

Today the balloon send-off was conducted in Kelvin’s remembrance.

Kelvin was a Grade 12 learner at Thomas Nhlabathi Secondary School at the time of the incident.

According to the organisers, this is their first preparation for a march to the Department of Education’s circuit office on Friday, where they will demand safety in schools and ask the department to provide schools with enough school resources to prevent learners to fight for school desks.

27 balloons were send into the sky.
