A fundraiser was held for Walker Park Golf Club greenkeeper Chris Janse van Rensburg (50), also known as Blits, on February 21.
Money raised goes towards the costs of lens implant surgery Janse van Rensburg underwent on November 13. He was diagnosed with cataracts, caused by long-term, unprotected exposure to the sun’s UV rays and wind, and not protecting his eyes from these elements.
The cataracts could not be removed with laser treatment. The day boasted a full field of 96 players. In first place were Jacques Cloete and Jaun Schoeman on 51 points.
Given Ngobs and Zisuxolo Gudu were in second place on 50 points. Third on 49 points were John Berning and At van Jaarsveld.
Nearest to the pin on number two was Amos Khumalo; on number eight, M Selgwele; on number 13, Hugo Terblanche; and on number 15, Carl van Schaik.
Nearest to the pin for two on number seven was Jaco van der Merwe, and nearest to the pin for two on number 16 was Jaun Schoeman. Ella Smit played the longest drive for the women, and Marius Moolman for the men.
