Police station commanders from eMbalenhle, Secunda and Bethal injured in accident

Colonel Khuselwa Matrose's condition is serious.

The commanders of three police stations within the Govan Mbeki Municipality were injured in an accident near Bethal yesterday afternoon.

Colonel Khuselwa Matrose from eMbalenhle, Lieutenant Colonel Vena Sigo from Secunda, and Lieutenant Colonel Tsekiso Tseole from Bethal were en route from Middelburg to Bethal when their police vehicle collided with a truck.

Tseole, who was driving, and Sigo, who was in the passenger seat, apparently sustained minor injuries.

Lieutenant Colonel Tsekiso Tseole is the commander at Bethal Police Station.

According to sources close to the investigation, Matrose, who was seated in the back of the vehicle, was seriously injured.

She and her colleagues were rushed by ambulance to Mediclinic Highveld in Trichardt.

The truck driver was unharmed.

Bethal police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving.

Colonel Nomakhwezi Vena-Sigo (49) is the station commander for Secunda Police.
