Preacher adds colour to 340th parkrun in Standerton

Dominee Tiaan Victor of the NG Wes congregation lost the bet of running the parkrun when the congregation reached their fundraising goal at their church bazaar on Friday.

The 340th Riverpark parkrun in Standerton attracted 88 participants who completed the 5km course in the Riverpark early on Saturday.
A total of 13 participants reset their personal best times.

They are Simon Ntuli (26:19), Lesney Molepo (37:00), Thembekile Khoza (38:19), Benjamin Hermans Beyneveldt (38:42), Ilana Beyneveldt (38:43), Lorencia Urrena (42:41), Zanele Trudy Simelane (43:08), Sanele Hlengwa (43:36), Sinyegwe Tshilidzi (44:43), Refiloe Tsotetsi (45:15), Daniel Wright (50:58), Antoinette Swart (51:41), Gabriel Kleynhans (53:50) and Petrus Johannes Snyman (55:19).

The first participant to finish the 5km route was young Bongane Mpokane, who crossed the finish line in 18:20. Dominee Tiaan Victor of the NG Wes congregation ensured a colourful moment to set the mood for a fun parkrun when he was delivered, in handcuffs.

Willian Haskins of Kasselman Security Services played along in a mock arrest at Victor’s home.

Victor challenged his congregation and lost the bet of running the parkrun when the congregation reached their fundraising goal at their church bazaar on Friday. Haskins delivered a colourful preacher in the back of a security van to the parkrun.

The volunteers who made this latest parkrun possible are Charl van Wyk, Danie Laufs, Frans Vermaak, Hugh Robertson, Leandri van Wyk, Lizette Jansen van Rensburg, Marion Jean Robertson, Nienke Swart, Noluthando Zweni, Séan Jansen van Rensburg and Susan Laufs.
